This is a powdered laundry soap that you can make for your family. It would be a good Saturday project that will end up saving you lots of money. I did it in the liquid form and liked it, except that it takes up a lot of storage space. The powdered obviously won't take up as much room.
Each batch will make about 4 cups of detergent and costs about $1.00 to make. You would use just 2 Tablespoons per load, which will yield about 32 loads per batch. When I do it, I make several batches at a time and store it in an air tight container. It should last a very long time.
Recipe:
2 Cups finely shredded bar soap -Ivory or Fel-Naphptha Soap (Fel-Nahptha can be found at Macey's)
1 Cup Arm and Hammer Washing or Super Washing Soda
1 Cup 20 Mule Team Borax
(just grate soap on a grater)
If you want you can use Essential Oils for fragrance. Just a few drops as you are mixing everything together.
This is one item that is inexpensive to do and will help build your long term storage.
